Who CAN'T Get Implants?

In general, most people between the ages of 18 and on up are good candidates to get implants. However, some circumstances may need careful consideration before proceeding. Here are a few of the most common circumstances:

  • Someone who has significant periodontal disease. The disease might also affect an implant.
  • People whose healing process has been compromised through certain chronic diseases or medications may find implant placement would need to be carefully considered and monitored.
  • Someone who has been taking bisphosphonates for an extended period of time as a treatment for osteoporosis may not be a candidate for implants. They should consult with their physician and their dentist to discuss the option.

Again, while most adults can get dental implants, it is highly recommended that anyone considering dental implants, consult with their dentist before proceeding. Every person's mouth is different and only you and your dentist can determine whether or not you're a good candidate for dental implants.
